But I thought I would take a break to post some more cute pics of the chicks. They have grown so much in the last week that these pics are outdated really! They are 2 weeks old now.
We had a great run of warm and sunny weather recently. So mumma and chicks got to go out. Other than fresh air and grass, it is good to get chicks out onto the soil. This is so they can start developing immunity to protect against coccoidiosis. The chicks and mum initially were not too happy about being moved- based on the level of cheeping going on. Soon though they settled right down. My daughter had a blast hand feeding the chicks and Fleur too- a special treat of chopped lettuce and raw rolled oats.
I kept them away from the other chickens though; on the other side of the Chicken Fence to be exact. This was just to avoid my babies picking up some nasty bug from the other grown ups and to avoid putting the chicks into danger- I am sure some of those girls would peck the newcomer babies. By allowing the chickens to see the chicks and Fleur, I am hoping that their integration into the Cottage Coop in some months time will go smoothly.
